Ancient Aliens is an American television series that premiered on April 20, 2010, on the History channel. Produced by Prometheus Entertainment in a documentary style, the program presents hypotheses of ancient astronauts and proposes that historical texts, archaeology, and legends contain evidence of past human-extraterrestrial contact. The show has been widely criticized by historians, cosmologists, archaeologists and other scientific circles for presenting and promoting pseudoscience, pseudohistory and pseudoarcheology.

Was the planet Earth essentially a re-fueling station for ancient Egyptian gods / extraterrestrials? Is the iron throne of Osirius – aka The Ship of Eternity – waiting to be found within the large void recently discovered in the Great Pyramid at Giza? How did the Egyptians move massive red granite blocks over 600 miles to build the Grand Gallery? Were the biblical Joseph, Enoch and Imhotep all the same man…and perhaps not of this world when he partnered with King Joser to build his pyramid?
Is mummification and placing it into sarcophagi actually a chemical process to assist in the transmutation of the body into a Light Body, allowing the person’s consciousness to travel through wormholes to the constellation Orion? Is Ramy Ramony the hunkiest Egyptologist the world ever did see? (the answer is yes, but..) We don’t know, but our plucky Ancient Astronaut Theorists sure think they do!
This episode is a special “event” episode that differs from the usual Ancient Aliens episode in that it follows Giorgio Tsoukalos as he travels to Egypt in April 2018 to meet with archaeologist Ramy Romany and visits a number of popular Egyptian sites in the manner of his cancelled H2 spinoff series In Search of Aliens. It is, he says, his first visit to Egypt in 18 years. He is dressed, as in that series, in Indiana Jones drag, as though to appropriate to himself the authority and the glamour of fictitious archaeology.
The cinematography is different, too, shot a bit more dramatically, more like The Amazing Race. But the reality show comparison is also apt because the show devotes more time than usual to blathering and banter to fill the two-hour run time. It’s also a bit strange that Tsoukalos is seen in real-time action, in candid interviews on-site, and also as a talking head in-studio commenting on his own commentary.
