Gardeners World episode 17 2017:

Night-scented plants

After a hard day at work on a hot summer’s day, there’s nothing like sitting out in the evening with a cold beer or glass of wine. And to enhance the experience, we’d recommend adding a few night-scented plants. White flowers are particularly useful as they really stand out as the light begins to fade.

Vegetables in containers

Planting vegetables in containers is a versatile way of growing edible crops in the garden, particularly where space is limited.

Trees for smaller gardens

There are many trees widely available for smaller gardens, in all shapes and sizes, evergreen and deciduous. Given that many of us have limited space in which to garden, it becomes important that any trees chosen are right for their surroundings, in terms of proportion as well as for their decorative value.

Lavender in your garden

Lavender is an easy to grow, evergreen shrub that produces masses of beautifully scented flowers above green or silvery-grey foliage. This drought-tolerant plant thrives in a sunny border, container, herb or gravel gardens.

Florence fennel

Florence fennel, a wonderfully ornamental vegetable, is grown for its swollen leaf bases or ‘bulbs’ and edible leaves. Steam, grill or boil the ‘bulbs’ and serve with cheese sauce or butter; infuse the leaves in vinegar or add as garnish to salad.
