Gardening Australia episode 27 2019

Home of Horticulture

Costa meets some horticultural students to find out why they are pursuing a career with plants. Costa Georgiadis is at one Melbourne’s oldest Horticultural schools to ask students why they have chosen a plant filled career path

Wisteria Wisdom

Sophie Thomson calls in father-and-son master gardeners to show how to prune wisteria. Sophie Thomson has enlisted the help of Master Japanese Gardeners Fumio and Shinya Ueda to help her train her wisteria. Wisteria is a beautiful, deciduous climber with a wonderful perfume that makes a stunning display in spring. Its an all-season climber though, with summer shade, autumn golden leaf colour and the winter tracery, which lets in winter sun.

A Rock and a Hard Place

Costa visits green wall and roof garden expert Mark Paul’s home to find a cleverly constructed garden bursting with ideas for growing plants in unlikely spots. Spending time with Mark is like having a crash course in the botany of the rainforest. His garden is home to his plant collection and they’re all the plants he loves. Mark’s house is basically built on a giant sandstone boulder – so the house and garden are very well integrated.

My Garden Path – Wona Bae and Charlie Lawler

We meet two artists who have bonded over their love of using plant material to create unusual works on a grand scale. Artists Wona Bae and Charlie Lawler have been working together for 12 years but have only started to make a living in the last five! Their backgrounds are both in design, with Wona coming from a fashion base and Charlie from permaculture, but together they work as floral designers, collecting and experimenting with natural materials.

Bringing up Babies

Millie visits an historical nursery to find out what it takes to raise the perfect seedling.

Horticultural Legends

Jane Edmanson visits a family with a long history in horticulture and explores their secret tropical garden.

Our Changing World

Jerry gets high, 45m high to be exact, at a pioneering research station on Sydney’s outskirts where they are studying how plants are responding to increased CO2 in our atmosphere.

People Behind The Patch

Tino goes behind the scenes at The Patch to meet the people who work hard to keep the garden thriving.

Marion’s Sanctum

Josh meets an Australian horticultural legend in Perth who has spent her lifetime creating sanctuaries for both people and plants.

My Garden Path – Rebecca White

We meet Rebecca White – a laboratory assistant and tutor who spends her days unravelling the science of plants for students.
