Ancient Aliens is an American television series that premiered on April 20, 2010, on the History channel. Produced by Prometheus Entertainment in a documentary style, the program presents hypotheses of ancient astronauts and proposes that historical texts, archaeology, and legends contain evidence of past human-extraterrestrial contact. The show has been widely criticized by historians, cosmologists, archaeologists and other scientific circles for presenting and promoting pseudoscience, pseudohistory and pseudoarcheology.

Ancient Aliens explores the controversial theory that extraterrestrials have visited Earth for millions of years. From the age of the dinosaurs to ancient Egypt, from early cave drawings to continued mass sightings in the US, each episode in this hit HISTORY series gives historic depth to the questions, speculations, provocative controversies, first-hand accounts and grounded theories surrounding this age old debate. Did intelligent beings from outer space visit Earth thousands of years ago?

The Zohar

The Zohar is a foundational work in the literature of Jewish mystical thought known as Kabbalah. It is a group of books including commentary on the mystical aspects of the Torah (the five books of Moses) and scriptural interpretations as well as material on mysticism, mythical cosmogony, and mystical psychology. The Zohar contains discussions of the nature of God, the origin and structure of the universe, the nature of souls, redemption, the relationship of Ego to Darkness and “true self” to “The Light of God”.

The Zohar was first publicized by Moses de León (c. 1240 – 1305), who claimed it was a Tannaitic work recording the teachings of Simeon ben Yochai. Although claim to a single authorship is universally rejected by modern scholars, most of whom believe de León wrote most of the initially released book himself, some scholars argue that the Zohar is the work of multiple medieval authors and/or contains a small amount of genuinely antique novel material.

Orthodox Judaism accepts that the Zohar was “committed to writing by Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.” although it “was not published until 1558 .” The Jewish Encyclopedia’s article on de Leon ends “the contents of the book have been accepted and approved by all cabalists, and can by no means be regarded as mere inventions and forgeries of Moses de Leon.”
